Every time I let myself float along its waters, I feel its vast, boundless generosity. The river quietly receives and dissolves all my stress and struggles — unconditionally and without limits. Over time, I began to notice how it also nurtures the trees, animals, and people of this land in the same quiet, unwavering way — even taking in our waste without complaint. And I find that deeply admirable. I’ve been healed by this magical river. And I sincerely wish for you to experience the same peace, abundance, and intimacy of this land.

Authentic small-group tours in Ben Tre, Mekong Delta
MEKONG DELTA

"I returned to Ben Tre after my first visit 25 years ago. I was concerned that the influx of tourism might change the wonderful experiences I had in this lush, riverine area of the Mekong Delta.
Fortunately, I discovered the Mekong Zigzag tour, where I enjoyed an informative and delightful half-day experience with Dzung - the founder, and An - our tour guide. I learned a great deal about local life and culture from An, who had lived and worked far from Ben Tre for many years before returning to her homeland. Dzung, an "outsider turned local," has also developed a deep love for this land.
During our four hours together, we enjoyed peaceful moments in the leafy shade of the coconut trees along the channels, as well as a beautiful motorbike ride through serene village roads. These experiences met my expectations and helped me cherish the delicate memories of the Mekong Delta that I had held onto since my first visit in 2000.
After the trip, I told myself that I would return one day to learn more about this riverine land and the friendly lifestyle of the people in the Mekong Delta."

I’ve been healed by this magical river. And I sincerely wish for you to experience the same peace, abundance, and intimacy of this land. Linh and I — we are both from the North of Vietnam. Together, we left behind the city life and many parts of the traditional culture we grew up in, to slowly build a quieter life — one that is close to nature, simple, and filled with kindness, connection, and interesting friendships from all over the world. We do everything at our own pace — gently and within our capacity. As for the people who work with us — the tour guides, the drivers, the cooks — I truly hope they feel close to one another, supported, respected, confident and comfortable at work. I want them to feel agency in what they do, and always have the chance to learn and grow in whatever way they desire. An is a calm, grounded tour guide with great potential to become a thoughtful team leader. Truc is gentle and attentive, takes beautiful photos, and is eager to expand her horizons through meeting people from around the world. Chi is a tour guide who cares deeply about the guests. She’s creative and full of spontaneous ideas for local activities. She dreams of improving her English skills. Uncle Hai and Uncle Tam — our beloved drivers — simply wish for steady, manageable work in their older age, and enjoy quiet tea breaks and casual chats while waiting for guests. Our tour guides don’t give speeches, don’t perform, and don’t follow fixed programs. They move at your pace, share whatever sparks mutual curiosity, then quietly step back so you can just be — with the land, with the water, with yourself. Our drivers don’t wear uniforms. Mr. Hai prefers neat, elegant button-up shirts. Uncle Tam, on the other hand, loves bold colors — you’ll often see him in bright reds or purples. Chi, one of our tour guides, sometimes shows up in the sweetest traditional outfits. So what makes us different? We’re simply living our lives in this peaceful corner of the Mekong — and we are happy to share with you the space, the food, and the time that we have, as real as it gets. That’s really all there is to it.

When we travel ourselves, we always look for the authenticity of a destination. The Mekong Delta is a beautiful region in many ways: nature, weather, food, culture, and people. After living here for four years, I’ve come to truly appreciate the beauty of a slow-paced life shaped by the Mekong’s nature and its people—and it is a beautiful thing to embrace. As people working in tourism, my husband Dzung and I are deeply passionate about designing tours that truly touch the Mekong’s authenticity, while still guaranteeing comfortable and relaxing experiences for our guests. Dzung is very good at finding routes to explore—sometimes even routes that local people here don’t know ^^. He is also good at organizing time, schedules, and places, so he is the one who creates the tour itineraries. I’m the one who takes care of the details. You might see many sampan boat tours in the Mekong Delta. They are traditional, and we love them. However, we feel they are often too small, and it can be uncomfortable for guests to sit on hard wooden chairs for over an hour while enjoying the river scenery. So we asked ourselves: why don’t we design a larger—but not too big—boat, with comfortable beanbag chairs, so guests can sit, lie down, relax, and still see other local traditional sampan boats carrying coconuts, fishing nets, or other goods passing by along the way? Our boat doesn’t have a roof. You can lie down and watch the sky, then see palm leaves gliding above your head. For us, it is always a healing moment. Worried about rain? We understand. We are very sensitive to weather changes and try to avoid boat trips when it looks like it’s going to rain. Our tours are flexible, and activity schedules can be adjusted based on the weather and overall feasibility. Secondly, food. We are so lucky to be friends with Ba Danh Homestay, a place where our friends cook amazingly delicious Mekong meals—not too greasy, not too sweet, always fresh and local. This is where our guests will have lunch. Even better, they make coconut candy on-site, handmade organically, with so much passion. She puts a lot of heart into her coconut candy products, and the result is a more authentic, healthier, and incredibly delicious version of coconut candy. Ba Danh Homestay is a beautiful, traditional hidden place, lying quietly by a small natural canal. The homestay is surrounded by hammocks (how amazing is that?). A short nap—a little la siesta—on the hammocks after lunch and coconut candy is simply perfect, so yes, we include this in our full-day tour itinerary (and our guests are always very thankful for it!). Still about food: if you book a full-day trip in Ben Tre, before the tour ends, we will take you to Ben Tre city center to try some delicious street food. It’s clean, locally recommended, and there’s a high chance you wouldn’t be able to find these places by yourself ^^ :D. Thirdly, wandering around the countryside by scooter and spontaneously visiting local spots along the way. Scooters are the main form of transportation in Vietnam. They are convenient, fun, and intimate (especially when you sit behind a driver). You can feel the cool breeze, see the scenery around you almost 180 degrees, and truly experience local life. If you are confident with driving scooters, you can even try riding by yourself. The countryside roads in the Mekong are small with very little traffic—compared to Saigon, it’s probably a 3 out of 10. Sometimes we organize tuk-tuks instead of scooters. Tuk-tuks are three-wheeled vehicles that local people mostly use to transport goods like coconuts, durian, furniture, or construction materials—and yes, they can carry people too :D. It’s a fun, bumpy, and very breezy experience. I truly wish that every one of you could see and feel the beauty of the Mekong Delta in an authentic way. This region is sadly underrated compared to other famous destinations in Vietnam and is sometimes labeled as “too touristic,” which we believe is unfair.

We hope your journey with us feels easy and intimate, just like hanging out and spending a relaxed day with local friends, simple and genuine.
