Mekong Zig Zag on the Mekong Delta River

Every time I let myself float along its waters, I feel its vast, boundless generosity. The river quietly receives and dissolves all my stress and struggles — unconditionally and without limits. Over time, I began to notice how it also nurtures the trees, animals, and people of this land in the same quiet, unwavering way — even taking in our waste without complaint. And I find that deeply admirable. I’ve been healed by this magical river. And I sincerely wish for you to experience the same peace, abundance, and intimacy of this land.

"The Mekong river holds a special meanings for me"

Zung - Mekong ZigZag founder

MEKONG DELTA

An intimate look into life in the Mekong River delta

Written by Mekong Zig Zag's founder - Dzung

I’ve been healed by this magical river. And I sincerely wish for you to experience the same peace, abundance, and intimacy of this land.

Linh and I — we are both from the North of Vietnam. Together, we left behind the city life and many parts of the traditional culture we grew up in, to slowly build a quieter life — one that is close to nature, simple, and filled with kindness, connection, and interesting friendships from all over the world.

We do everything at our own pace — gently and within our capacity.

As for the people who work with us — the tour guides, the drivers, the cooks — I truly hope they feel close to one another, supported, respected, confident and comfortable at work. I want them to feel agency in what they do, and always have the chance to learn and grow in whatever way they desire.

An is a calm, grounded tour guide with great potential to become a thoughtful team leader.

Truc is gentle and attentive, takes beautiful photos, and is eager to expand her horizons through meeting people from around the world.

Chi is a tour guide who cares deeply about the guests. She’s creative and full of spontaneous ideas for local activities. She dreams of improving her English skills.

Uncle Hai and Uncle Tam — our beloved drivers — simply wish for steady, manageable work in their older age, and enjoy quiet tea breaks and casual chats while waiting for guests.

Our tour guides don’t give speeches, don’t perform, and don’t follow fixed programs.

They move at your pace, share whatever sparks mutual curiosity, then quietly step back so you can just be — with the land, with the water, with yourself.

Our drivers don’t wear uniforms.

Mr. Hai prefers neat, elegant button-up shirts. Uncle Tam, on the other hand, loves bold colors — you’ll often see him in bright reds or purples.

Chi, one of our tour guides, sometimes shows up in the sweetest traditional outfits.

So what makes us different?

We’re simply living our lives in this peaceful corner of the Mekong — and we are happy to share with you the space, the food, and the time that we have, as real as it gets. That’s really all there is to it.

THE STORY BEHIND OUR LOCAL WORKERS

Mr. Tam the Boat driver & Mr. Hai the Scooter driver

Mr. Tam (Uncle Tam) is over 70 years old. He was once a gardener, fisherman, and professional diver. He has a passion for karaoke and enjoys decorating his scooter with vibrant colors. Currently, he works as a full-time boat driver and a part-time scooter driver.

Mr. Hai (Uncle Hai) is over 80 years old. He previously worked in construction, but as he got older, health issues prevented him from continuing in the field. Now, he is a full-time scooter driver with us. At home, he lives with his wife, who does not ride a scooter.

Since joining Mekong Zig Zag, Mr. Tam and Mr. Hai have become close friends. They are dedicated to their work, as their income depends on it.
